Itinerary 28: Lothian

Playing golf on the Lothian coast is a balance between quality and affordability, and as such we recommend the combination of Kilspindie, Gullane – No 2 and The Glen. Kilspindie Golf Club is a super links course, lying hidden among the nature reserve of Aberlady Bay, the quaint village of Aberlady and the teaming waters of the Firth of Forth. Golf has been played over the links at Gullane for more than 130 years. Today, Gullane Golf Club is one of Scotland’s most prestigious clubs, mixing the finest tradition with some of the most admired natural links land in the world. In the 17th century golf was first played in North Berwick on the historic East Links, now called The Glen Golf Club. Originally laid out as a 9-hole course in 1894, it was extended to 18 holes in 1906 with a design provided by James Braid and Ben Sayers. The hotel for this itinerary is the Tweeddale Arms Hotel in Gifford, which provides an affordable accommodation option, combined with great ambience and charm.
